On 5th February, the Paarl Valley witnessed a synchronised display of love for all when Ronwe Primary, Nal’ibali, Val de Vie Foundation and Radio KC joined hands to celebrate World Read Aloud Day. This global movement aims to draw attention to literacy as a fundamental human right.

Through collaboration with the Winelands Western Cape Education Department, over 10 000 children, teachers and listeners were able to listen to Dr Harlan Cloete of 107.7FM read the prescribed Nal’ibali story for 2020: A Day to Remember written by Lorato Trok.

Dr Harlan Cloete was followed on air by two very brave current learners Haydee Fourier (Grade 6) and Stefanie Salvester (Grade 4) who each read their own story aloud.

Ronwe Primary then celebrated the spirit of the day with each learner receiving age-appropriate books from Read to Rise donated by the Val de Vie Foundation.

We encourage all to join us in TEAM READ to transform the lives of all our children. Help us address our Reading for Meaning problem by reading to and with a child for just 15 minutes per day. There can be no greater way to show your pride in and love of South Africa.
