Our Beneficiaries
Hope Through Action, together with their implementation partner SCORE, uses sport and education as a vehicle to provide a foundation for positive development through early intervention. They take a future-focused approach to building capacity, ensuring our communities are empowered with practical skills that can help break the cycle of poverty. With three Community Sports Centres in Franschhoek, Mbekweni and Malmesbury, they provide leadership, life skills, team development and skills training, along with creating safe spaces for youth development. Additional activities include sewing, aerobics, gym and counselling for all age groups. The Learning and Resource Centre supports digital education through homework assistance, research, CV preparation and tech skills development.
Khula Development Group, established in 2004 as a non-profit organisation (NPO), promotes school attendance in Paarl (Paarl East) and Stellenbosch (Cloetesville, Idas Valley, and Klapmuts) in the Western Cape. In South Africa, 40% of learners drop out before Grade 12, often due to social factors like poverty and the impact of COVID-19, which perpetuate cycles of absenteeism. Khula’s mission is to promote a positive culture of learning and strengthen the value of education and attendance for children at risk of school disengagement through school, home and community-based preventative and restorative initiatives.
Mosaic Community Development provides orphan and vulnerable child (OVC) care by implementing a unique model that holistically supports, equips and empowers existing OVC families with their physical and emotional needs. They also have various social enterprises that provide job opportunities and generates income to support the families.
Elevation Programme’s mission is personal restoration through social upliftment, life skills, enterprise development and self-sustainability within the wider Drakenstein communities. They have established a big network where they serve on various Skills Development and Job Creation forums to assist community members with fair opportunities and have assisted over 1200 unemployed persons to date.
Thuma Mina Teaching’s vision is to see a changed education narrative in South Africa. As a registered NPO, they provide free video lessons for teachers, parents, and learners based on the CAPS curriculum. Their mission is to accelerate access to high-quality education and to empower teachers and learners.
Drakenstein Association for Persons with Disabilities assists persons with disabilities by addressing their specific needs and supporting empowerment processes to strengthen their voice and independence. They strive for communities in which persons with disabilities are regarded as equal citizens and are included in all levels of society.
The Franschhoek Hospitality Academy & Learning Centre is a registered Charitable Trust, PBO & NPO that focuses on youth development within disadvantaged communities, by providing the necessary hospitality training and skills required for employment. Through evening classes led by industry professionals and hands-on experience, they’re committed to shaping a future where every student can thrive.
The Paarl Youth Initiative works with a selected group of rural teenagers from various farms throughout the Paarl–Franschhoek valley. With a focus on youth empowerment, development, and leadership, they strive to make a positive impact on the future of these teenagers.
This community music academy aims to provide comprehensive music education to underprivileged children. The programme, which has been running since the COVID pandemic, has proven to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change and it has grown steadily as its visibility and performances have attracted more recruits. Through the joy of music, these children are not only learning to play various instruments but are also gaining valuable life skills that will shape their futures.
Community-based dual sensory (hearing and vision) screening programmes for pre-school and school-aged children utilise HearX digital technologies. Their goal is to eliminate hearing and vision issues as potential educational barriers and support individuals through the entire referral pathway to care. They also offer end-to-end community- and home-based hearing care for seniors. Through the ‘EARS’ teacher training programme, they educate and equip teachers to identify, refer and support learners with potential hearing problems.
Calling Education is transforming access to top-quality education for learners from low-income communities in South Africa. Its vision began with the establishment of Calling Academy Stellenbosch in 2018, followed by Kroonstad in 2022 and a parallel medium, co-ed campus in Paarl in 2025. The Val de Vie Foundation is investing in the development of the Paarl school, located 20 minutes away from Val de Vie in a farming community. Alongside operating these schools, Calling Education provides thought leadership in low-fee education, setting new standards for excellence and innovation in the sector.
Our Partners
Nation Builder is an Impact Funding Platform ensuring that social investments enable actual, sustainable change in communities. They manage and distribute funding to a number of nonprofit member organisations who implement various projects and programmes in the Cape Winelands. Nation Builder then monitors and evaluates these organisations to ensure that the impact is part of a holistic strategic intervention plan.
Marathon Insure is home to a team of short-term insurance specialists. It is their mission to protect the wealth of their clients from unforeseen events by offering short-term insurance advice and cover. They partner with leading insurance providers to provide access to a wide range of insurance options.
