Khula Development Group, established in 2004 as a non-profit organisation (NPO), promotes school attendance in Paarl (Paarl East) and Stellenbosch (Cloetesville, Idas Valley, and Klapmuts) in the Western Cape. In South Africa, 40% of learners drop out before Grade 12, often due to social factors like poverty and the impact of COVID-19, which perpetuate cycles of absenteeism. Khula’s mission is to promote a positive culture of learning and strengthen the value of education and attendance for children at risk of school disengagement through school, home and community-based preventative and restorative initiatives.
Mosaic Community Development provides orphan and vulnerable child (OVC) care by implementing a unique model that holistically supports, equips and empowers existing OVC families with their physical and emotional needs. They also have various social enterprises that provide job opportunities and generates income to support the families.
Elevation Programme’s mission is personal restoration through social upliftment, life skills, enterprise development and self-sustainability within the wider Drakenstein communities. They have established a big network where they serve on various Skills Development and Job Creation forums to assist community members with fair opportunities and have assisted over 1200 unemployed persons to date.
Thuma Mina Teaching’s vision is to see a changed education narrative in South Africa. As a registered NPO, they provide free video lessons for teachers, parents, and learners based on the CAPS curriculum. Their mission is to accelerate access to high-quality education and to empower teachers and learners.
Drakenstein Association for Persons with Disabilities assists persons with disabilities by addressing their specific needs and supporting empowerment processes to strengthen their voice and independence. They strive for communities in which persons with disabilities are regarded as equal citizens and are included in all levels of society.
The Franschhoek Hospitality Academy & Learning Centre is a registered Charitable Trust, PBO & NPO that focuses on youth development within disadvantaged communities, by providing the necessary hospitality training and skills required for employment. Through evening classes led by industry professionals and hands-on experience, they’re committed to shaping a future where every student can thrive.
The Paarl Youth Initiative works with a selected group of rural teenagers from various farms throughout the Paarl–Franschhoek valley. With a focus on youth empowerment, development, and leadership, they strive to make a positive impact on the future of these teenagers.
Rusthof Old Age Home is a 24-hour frail care residential facility serving vulnerable individuals over the age of 60 within the Paarl East community.
Our Partners
Nation Builder is an Impact Funding Platform ensuring that social investments enable actual, sustainable change in communities. They manage and distribute funding to a number of nonprofit member organisations who implement various projects and programmes in the Cape Winelands. Nation Builder then monitors and evaluates these organisations to ensure that the impact is part of a holistic strategic intervention plan.
