Khula Development Group, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, holds a special place in our hearts for their remarkable impact. Their dedication extends beyond working with at-risk scholars, reaching into homes to assist parents and ensure a stable environment for children and fostering holistic development.
Khula’s mission is to cultivate a positive learning culture, helping children in vulnerable communities value their education. Unfortunately, many children in these communities face severe challenges, including gangsterism and substance abuse, which increase the risk of them dropping out of school as early as grade 4, at just 10 years old. These children often come from broken or abusive homes, lacking the nurturing environment essential for their growth.
The issue is complex and multifaceted. Khula’s School2Home programme reveals that many parents have endured past traumas that led to educational struggles of their own, perpetuating the cycle of poverty and violence. Recognising this, Khula is committed to breaking these cycles and inspiring at-risk scholars to excel academically, understanding that education is the key to a brighter future.
We are thrilled to announce one of Khula Development Group’s most recent initiatives: the Child Protection Project. This project aims to raise awareness about child safety across nine schools, from Paarl to Stellenbosch. In a country where the need for child protection is dire, this project is a crucial step towards creating safer environments for our children. By addressing the cycle of violence, abuse, and educational neglect, Khula is paving the way for lasting change.
Val de Vie Foundation proudly supports Khula’s efforts and is inspired by its unwavering commitment to making a difference. Let’s continue to support and amplify the vital work of Khula Development Group.
