Mosaic, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, hosted a Women’s Health and Care Workshop for caregivers in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley who care for orphaned and vulnerable children. The day was designed to support the women who spend their lives caring for others, giving them space to focus on their own health, dignity and strength.

In partnership with NorSA’s team of medical professionals and volunteer nurses, the “mosaic moms” moved through various health stations throughout the day. They received health screenings, breast and cervical cancer education and one-on-one consultations in a mobile clinic, creating a safe, private environment for personal questions and concerns. For many caregivers, it was a rare chance to speak openly with a medical professional about their own wellbeing, something that is often neglected while they prioritise the children in their care.

The impact was immediate and concrete. Two women discovered they had high blood pressure and were able to access follow-up care, interventions that may prove life-saving for them and by extension, for the children who depend on them. Moments like these underscored the critical importance of investing in caregivers’ health, not only for the children they support.

Beyond the medical aspects, the day was deeply nurturing on an emotional and spiritual level. Each woman received self-care items and was offered prayer and gentle reminders that they, too, are worthy of being seen and cared for. This combination of practical health support and personal affirmation helped many caregivers reconnect with their sense of worth and resilience.

In every way, the workshop embodied Mosaic’s mission: helping caregivers move from survival to strength. By supporting the women at the centre of these families, it helps to secure more stable, loving homes for orphaned and vulnerable children in our communities.
