In October, Mosaic Community Developments, a beneficiary of the Val de Vie Foundation, inspired over 100 vulnerable children with their Anti-Gangsterism Awareness workshop. In collaboration with SAPS Wellington, the event provided a safe environment for young people to explore the consequences of crime and the importance of positive choices.

A highlight of the workshop was Maxwell’s moving testimony, a reformed former gangster, who bravely shared how his life was once wrecked by crime and imprisonment and how he turned it around to find a path of redemption. His story resonated deeply, showing the children that change is possible even after past mistakes.

Detectives McKena and Marais then guided the youth through practical strategies to recognise grooming, resist peer pressure and seek support when confronted with risky influences. The children were fully engaged, asking insightful questions and reflecting on how even small decisions can shape their futures.

This workshop not only equipped participants with knowledge and resilience but also enhanced Mosaic’s partnership with SAPS, emphasising their shared dedication to building safer, stronger and more hopeful communities where every child can flourish.
