At Mosaic Community Development’s Paarl Centre, ongoing care and creative opportunities are changing young lives, one step at a time. Kayleigh’s story from the Child Development Programme captures this perfectly.

When Kayleigh first joined the aftercare programme, she was quiet and reserved. She sat at the back of the classroom, hoodie pulled close, keeping to herself. Her engagement with peers remained limited, and she hesitated in group activities, all signs of a child still seeking safety in a new environment.

A turning point came with the cultural dance group for the annual Christmas production. This safe space allowed her to express herself creatively. As rehearsals advanced, her confidence grew. Performing on stage became a moment of powerful affirmation, turning tentative steps into visible self-assurance and pride.

Inspired, Kayleigh sought further creative pursuits. Chosen for the Jack Meyer Art Centre and Mosaic Art Classes, she delved into painting, sculpting, and collage-making. These activities not only sharpened her skills but also introduced new ways to express ideas and boost confidence through creativity.

Crucially, Kayleigh balanced this with strong academic performance, demonstrating responsibility, discipline and better time management. Her maturity and motivation are evident. Kayleigh’s journey from a reserved learner to a young person showcasing her talents illustrates how Mosaic’s Paarl Centre fosters confidence and potential.

As a beneficiary of the Val de Vie Foundation, Mosaic Community Development helps transform these quiet moments of growth into pathways to hope.
