During the recent Val de Vie Foundation guided community tour, residents of Val de Vie Estate had the opportunity to meet a young boy named Miquel at Monte Christo Miqlat. Miquel’s story is unique, as he was born with deformed feet.
Sharing her testimony, Margaret Gombard, Principal of Monte Christo Miqlat (MCM) Tiffany’s Community Centre, highlighted that Miquel displayed his insecurity by always wearing shoes, even when the other boys ran barefoot on summer days. As children naturally do, they became curious and started asking questions, which made Miquel more self-conscious and lowered his self-esteem.
In response, the organisation decided to assist the family with his condition. They contacted a doctor at Mediclinic Paarl, who was able to help. Their efforts were successful and Miquel began his journey towards “brand new feet” on 14 October.
MCM has played an essential role in their ongoing support of Miquel and his family. Miquel’s wounds need to be cleaned regularly to ensure full recovery. Committed to his progress, MCM staff transport Miquel to and from the hospital, where the nurses dress his wounds.
MCM is a remarkable beneficiary of the Val de Vie Foundation. Their dedication to improving the lives of not only the children in their care but also the broader community is truly commendable.
