Drakenstein Municipality celebrated National Women’s Day by working to equip women with the necessary skills to both protect and defend themselves.
Hosted in partnership with the Val de Vie Foundation at Eurolux Boland Park Cricket Stadium in Paarl, the workshop attracted over 60 women, and was attended by the Executive Mayor, Conrad Poole, members of his Mayoral Committee, councillors, staff and members of the public.
Drakenstein Municipality takes a stance against the scourge of Gender Based Violence 365 days a year. In support of this, John McGrath, co-owner of FitLife and self-defence expert, presented a masterclass, which both educated and empowered the women in attendance on how to protect themselves should they find themselves in a threatening situation. The event was a huge success, with John being tackled to the ground by his enthusiastic participants on more than one occasion!
