Alicia Filander, a vibrant 26-year-old from Wellington, South Africa, comes from a large, loving family of 12 siblings. In March 2023, she embarked on a life-changing journey alongside her brother, joining the Elevation Programme in the Newrest community. With its comprehensive training, guidance, and mentorship, the Elevation Programme proved to be a catalyst for both personal and professional growth for Alicia and her brother, Shaun Filander.
They were not only equipped with the essential tools to succeed in their endeavours but also received the support and guidance that paved the way for their success. The programme’s work-readiness initiative played a pivotal role in helping Alicia identify her career passions and develop the skills needed to excel.
Alicia’s journey took an exciting turn in November 2023 when the Elevation team reached out to her. Recognising her interest in administration, as expressed in her work-readiness application, they offered her a Business Administration Learnership. This opportunity not only ignited Alicia’s ambition but also solidified her career aspirations, inspiring her to pursue a degree in the field and make a meaningful impact on the world.
The Elevation Programme’s positive influence extended to Shaun as well. His participation led to him securing permanent employment with Window Works operating in Val de Vie Estate. This clearly demonstrates the programme’s transformative power, as both siblings continue to thrive and reach new heights in their careers.
Alicia and Shaun’s story is a hope-filled testament to other young people from vulnerable communities. It inspires others to make the most of every opportunity that comes their way and to overcome challenges, regardless of their circumstances. Val de Vie Foundation remains a proud funder of the Elevation Programme and is honoured to share in their social impact journey.
