Mosaic Development Group, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, has a mission to create safe spaces where children can grow, learn and feel they belong. This motto drives everything they do. Recently, their social work team in the Paarl Valley took a meaningful step towards this goal by launching a transformative 10-week workshop series for children in their after-school programme. These interactive sessions, tailored for various age groups, focus on anti-bullying and fostering positive peer interaction.
Through engaging activities such as storytelling, games and role-play, the children learn how to recognise different types of bullying, understand their own emotions and actions, and develop empathy and confidence in managing conflicts with kindness and assertiveness. This initiative arose directly from discussions and evaluations with families, children and caregivers, which showed that many children were having difficulties with peer relationships, sometimes feeling insecure or unaware of how their behaviour impacted others.
Mosaic creates safe and supportive environments tailored to each child’s developmental stage. This helps children build essential social and emotional skills for daily interactions. The programme’s impact is already visible: children are beginning to reflect on their own behaviour and that of others, and learning that even unintentional actions can hurt people. These moments of awareness represent a powerful shift.
Thanks to this programme, the Mosaic team is witnessing not only learning but also a growing sense of hope within the community. Children are becoming more aware, more connected, and ultimately more empowered to treat one another with respect. Through this initiative, Mosaic is nurturing a generation that will grow up kinder, stronger and more united.
