In 2025, Thuma Mina Teaching (TMT), a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, strengthened classroom practice by investing directly in educators. Through in-person training, TMT reached 630 Grade 7–9 Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) teachers across the Western Cape and Mpumalanga. These sessions equipped teachers with practical, CAPS-aligned tools and strategies, boosting their confidence in teaching EMS effectively.
At its core, TMT holds a simple belief: when teachers are supported, learners thrive. Each training session delivers immediately usable, relevant content, exactly what teachers say is missing from traditional professional development.

This momentum is driving an exciting expansion in 2026, with plans to train a further 1,000 teachers in the Western Cape and Mpumalanga, while also expanding into two new provinces. This push responds to growing demand from schools and districts, as well as increasing trust among teachers and partners.
The year kicked off strongly last Saturday at La Rochelle Girls’ High School, where TMT trained 54 Grade 7–9 EMS teachers at a launch event buzzing with energy. Educators arrived ready to learn, engage and discuss real classroom challenges. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with resources proving practical and the content tackling daily hurdles head-on.
