Suraya Sambo’s journey with the Elevation Programme, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, is a powerful example of how targeted support and opportunity can transform lives. At 34 years old and living in Wellington, Suraya is a proud mother and determined entrepreneur who discovered the Elevation Programme through social media early in 2025. Her decision to join marked the beginning of a journey full of learning, growth and new possibilities.
Before joining, Suraya faced challenges with skills such as communication, problem-solving and time management. Through the Elevation Programme’s Work Readiness component, she developed these crucial abilities while also building confidence, self-awareness and motivation. This holistic approach helped her grow both personally and professionally, equipping her with the tools to navigate real-world challenges with newfound assurance.
Suraya’s progress continued as she embarked on a 12-month Learnership in New Venture Creation, supported by the programme. She further expanded her skills by completing a week-long Entrepreneurship Course at Labit Academy and a two-week Photography Short Course. Each opportunity deepened her practical knowledge and strengthened her capacity to pursue her business ambitions.
The Val de Vie Foundation’s support plays a vital role in enabling this impact. By covering the costs of Suraya’s learnership, it allowed her to focus fully on her development without financial stress. This support not only opened doors but also gave Suraya the confidence to believe in her entrepreneurial vision and take concrete steps towards building her business.
Suraya’s dream is to become a professional entrepreneur who leads with purpose, creating opportunities and inspiring young people in her community. Thanks to the Elevation Programme, she is now equipped with the skills, confidence and vision needed to make this dream a reality. Her story is a testament to how empowering individuals through education and support creates lasting impact for both themselves and their communities.
