Many vulnerable young learners in our community face an uncertain future, limited by a narrow view of opportunities beyond school. Recently, a transformative opportunity unfolded when psychologists from the University of Stellenbosch dedicated two days to working closely with grade 11 learners from the Paarl Youth Initiative, bringing much-needed career guidance and clarity.

These sessions went beyond traditional advice, they equipped learners with effective study strategies and offered psychometric testing to help each student discover their unique strengths. Career guidance like this is truly invaluable. It helps young people face future uncertainties head-on. They can make informed decisions about their next steps.

This might mean entering the workforce immediately or pursuing further education. Professional guidance builds their confidence. It empowers them to take ownership of their journey.

One learner, Lean Julius, shared how deeply the experience impacted him. Initially unsure and struggling with subjects related to his first career choice, Lean seized the chance to participate in the sessions. After two days of mentorship, he not only learned new, effective study techniques but also gained the clarity and confidence to choose a path aligned with his true strengths and aspirations.

As a beneficiary of the Val de Vie Foundation, the Paarl Youth Initiative can continue to offer life-changing experiences. By providing career guidance, they are shining a light on the path for vulnerable young people, enabling them to unlock their potential and create brighter, more fulfilling futures.
