At Mosaic, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, child development goes far beyond textbooks and homework. In the scenic Paarl-Franschhoek valley, Mosaic’s Child Development Programme supports young lives through a holistic approach that develops both the mind and the heart.
Currently, 84 children benefit from our after-school care, which provides more than just academic support. With daily access to literacy, maths, life skills sessions and nutritious meals, children build a strong foundation for success in school and beyond. What makes the programme truly special is its focus on talent development, creating safe and supportive spaces where children can explore their creativity and grow in confidence.
Through strong partnerships with local creative hubs such as the Jack Meyer and Breytenbach Art Centres, children are introduced to the world of fine art, learning to express themselves through colour, shape and story. Meanwhile, others find joy and purpose through vocational training in carpentry and upholstery, offered by the School of Skills.
One recent highlight was a group of boys who were challenged to design and build a mosaic table from scratch, inspired by the organisation’s name, Mosaic. What began as a simple project turned into a powerful journey of teamwork, perseverance and pride. The finished product wasn’t just a functional piece of furniture, it was a beautiful symbol of what’s possible when young people are seen, supported and given the tools to believe in themselves.
This kind of transformation doesn’t happen by chance. It’s achieved through the dedication of committed staff, meaningful partnerships and the generous support of those who believe in Mosaic’s mission. Together, we’re not just making tables, we’re shaping confident, capable young people with the tools to determine their own futures.
