Fifty-five “Khula kids” had the time of their lives Wednesday 4 December as the Val de Vie Foundation and Val de Vie residents hosted a Christmas party at Graceland Waterpark in Paarl. Khula Development Group is a Val de Vie Foundation-supported NGO whose mission is to prevent school dropouts among primary school children from disadvantaged communities.

For the past eight years, Val de Vie residents have generously donated Christmas gifts for a range of the Foundation’s beneficiaries. This year was no exception, as lists were sent out and gifts received, always with that extra special touch that made eyes sparkle with wonder. We were moved to tears by the young girl who couldn’t believe the parcel was all for her. In her words: “Is this all for me? Am I allowed to take it home?”

Much fun was had by all. From sliding down the slip ‘n’ slide, exploring the park’s wondrous features, high-fiving Santa, munching on burgers and chips, to opening a special present, love was all around.

As this year draws to a close, we give thanks for all we have. We are so grateful to our residents, who give so generously throughout the year. From the monthly levy contributions to volunteering and responding to our special drives, you epitomise the great generation Madiba called us to become. Thank you.
