Caitlin Zara Johnson, a 24-year-old resident of Wellington, is a bright example of the transformative impact of the Elevation Programme, a Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary. Growing up in a close-knit, supportive family with strong values of respect, love and mutual aid, Caitlin is a caring and determined individual committed to providing a nurturing and stable environment for her three-year-old daughter. Seeking personal and professional growth, she joined the Elevation Programme in August with the goal of better preparing herself for future employment opportunities.
Elevation Programme equipped Caitlin with essential work-readiness skills, including improved communication, teamwork, time management, interview preparation and CV writing. It also instilled a resilient and positive mindset, teaching her that success requires patience, consistency and dedication. These lessons strengthened Caitlin’s confidence and resolve, enabling her to face challenges with greater courage and determination.
A standout moment in Caitlin’s journey was the opportunity to complete an eight-week childcare course at Wamakersvallei Centrum as part of the Elevation Programme. This experience deepened her passion for early childhood development and clarified her career aspirations. Although Caitlin encountered initial difficulties finding opportunities after the programme, her perseverance and positivity have kept her moving forward toward her dreams.
Caitlin’s long-term vision is to further her studies in early childhood education and ultimately open her own daycare centre, a goal that reflects her commitment to creating a brighter future not only for herself but also for her daughter and her wider community.
