Imagine spending most of your days at home, dependent on your parents for daily care, with limited social interaction and struggling with confidence. For Anga, an 18-year-old male from Mbekweni, Paarl, living with Spastic Quadriplegia, Corpus Callosum Agenesis and epilepsy, this was his reality after being discharged from a Paarl special school due to his age. During the day, he often stayed at his grandmother’s house, where she cared for him.
That changed in February 2026 when Anga was self-referred to Val de Vie Foundation beneficiary, Drakenstein APD and joined as an Adult Day Care client. He found comfort there and has remained a client ever since.
From a loving home, with a strong support system from his parents (mother and stepfather), Anga is respectful, family-oriented, kind and interacts well with everyone. His parents are very supportive, ensuring he attends his clinic appointments and takes his medication consistently. At Drakenstein APD, the aim is to stimulate Anga, and it is working.
He now participates confidently in Adult Day Care activities. He has grown in confidence and communicates openly about his feelings and concerns. Anga is good at drawing and colouring pictures. He is well-disciplined and enjoys being at the Adult Day Care, arriving every morning with joy and pride.
He knows he is valued, accepted and that he belongs.
Drakenstein APD is not just providing a care facility for Anga to attend during the day; it has unlocked his potential by transforming isolation into engagement and uncertainty into pride. The organisation provides essential, individualised care to many others like Anga and plays a vital role in our community by assisting people with disabilities where access to such facilities is limited.
