Bianca Fisher, a 34-year-old woman from Newton, Wellington, joined the Protective Workshop programme at Drakenstein Association for Persons with Disabilities (DAPD), a beneficiary of Val de Vie Foundation, in February 2025. Throughout her life, Bianca has faced numerous complex challenges. Yet, in the short time she has been part of the DAPD, she has already become a much-valued asset to the organisation, consistently bringing positivity and a bright smile to the programme.
Bianca is a responsible and dedicated individual who is always willing to lend a helping hand. She embraces each task with enthusiasm and gives her best in everything she does. Although she comes from a disadvantaged background, Bianca refuses to let her circumstances define her future. While naturally shy, she loves being around people and caring for others.
Despite living with an intellectual disability, she is always eager to learn new skills in the workshop. She is greatly appreciated and adored at the Protective Workshop, not only for her positive presence but also for her remarkable ability to make others feel comfortable and to assist fellow clients when they need help.
DAPD aims to integrate Bianca into a formal employment setting, as they believe she has the ability to inspire both able-bodied individuals and others living with disabilities. Her journey is a powerful reminder that, with determination and the right support, anything is possible. DAPD is fortunate to have Bianca as a client and a part of their family.
