A highlight on the Western Cape golfing calendar, the Vodacom Shop Celebrity Golf Day returned this year after a Covid-induced hiatus. Leading sportsmen and women, celebrities and golfing enthusiasts all took part in aid of the Val de Vie Foundation at the Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course on Val de Vie Estate.

Celebrities in attendance included former Springbok captain Jean de Villiers, South African cricket coach and former cricketer Jacques Kallis, actors Frank Rautenbach and Ivan Botha, singer Heinz Winckler and public figure Rolene Strauss, to name but a few.

After a fantastic day of golf, an auction dinner in the evening raised much-needed funds that will enable the Val de Vie Foundation to support Hope Through Action’s Mbekweni campus. The campus consists of a sports and community centre, the Nompumelelo Educare Centre and the Good Hope Day Care Centre, which is the only school for disabled children in Mbekweni. It was built using funds raised at the 2019 Vodacom Shop Celebrity Golf Day, however, vandalism and theft continue to impact the team’s ability to provide much-needed support in helping to transform the lives of the vulnerable individuals in their care. The money raised will be used to install security measures to secure the premises of the entire Mbekweni campus.

Sponsors on the day included Vodacom Shop Tygervalley Group, Brenthurst, AON, Cape Winelands Properties, Universal Kitchens & Granite, MyRide, Sipsmith, Coca-Cola, Bril, The Wagyu Experience, Stella Artois, Smart Spaces and Haute Cabrière.

At the workshop, the Val de Vie Foundation presented Athlone House with bedding and towels, generously donated by the Pearl Valley Hotel operated by Mantis.
