Supporting organisations like Paarl Youth Initiative (PYI), a beneficiary of Val de Vie Foundation, enables us to pay it forward to the next generation. Sharing a testimony of Roshaan Lendoor, a participant in the Good Company Programme, we highlight the impact PYI has on the youth from vulnerable farm communities.
Annually, Paarl Youth Initiative undertakes a multi-day hike and invites youth from its own Good Company Programme, as well as youth from the community, to enjoy this wonderfully uplifting activity.
“This year was the third time I took part in the hike and wouldn’t miss the next one for anything. It is always very exciting to hike with a group of old and new friends who you know will not judge you for being you, but will help you to become the best you can be. When you cry during the hike, they cry with you, when you laugh, they share your joy, when you struggle there is always a helping hand or an encouraging word, and along the way, we become fast friends.”
At Grootvadersbosch, they enjoyed the beauty of nature, discovering flowers they had not known existed. The animals served as a reminder of the incredible diversity in creation. Sharing her story, Roshaan highlighted her growth and the significance of perseverance in her journey as a young individual.
“During the hike, I became aware of my growth during the last few years, and I saw that I am someone who can bring a bit of sunshine into others’ lives. Hiking showed me that I do have the determination to reach for my goals through hard work and that I should not give up as I will succeed despite the rocks or boulders that might be in my way. I once again saw that whenever I encounter difficulties, there are people around me whom I can count on to support me.”
“I have already reserved my place for next year’s hike as I’m excited to see how I’ll grow on my journey to adulthood,” an excited Roshaan said.
By inspiring the youth with our continued support of PYI, Val de Vie Foundation aims to ensure and enable a better life for all. Our hope for the youth is that they continue having enriching experiences that strengthen them to live positive lifestyles despite their circumstances.
