Mosaic’s recent Women’s Upliftment Workshop was motivated by a deep concern for the emotional well-being of women in our community. Earlier this year, family assessments carried out in Wellbi revealed that most of the Caretaker women we support often feel hopeless and experience sadness nearly every day.

These honest voices reminded us that beyond parenting skills and education, our mothers, foster parents, and women need spaces to be seen, heard, and supported. They need moments where they can be reminded of their own worth and where hope can be fostered.

With the support of final-year Social Work students from Hugenote College, Mosaic hosted a workshop that highlighted empowerment, resilience, and hope. Instead of external speakers, we chose to celebrate the strength within our own community. Two parents bravely shared their personal journeys of hardship and growth, stories that resonated deeply, reminding everyone present that healing is possible, even in the toughest seasons.

The women were also encouraged to express themselves creatively, painting their own visions of hope. Brushstrokes became routes to healing, reflection, and self-discovery. The workshop was not just about acquiring tools for self-regulation, but about awakening to a truth that already exists: they carry within them the resilience and strength to rise.

As we continue to support families, we celebrate the courage of every woman who dares to hope again. When women are uplifted, entire families and communities are strengthened. As Graça Machel reminds us, “If you want to nurture strong communities, you must nurture women. Their well-being is the heartbeat of a nation.”

We pray for each of these women to heal and grow into the state that scripture beautifully describes in Proverbs 31:25, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
